Hi Nancy!
NB>>> Mine covers it, but at a high tier where I pay a substantial chunk of
NB>>> it.... that was part of what gave me pause back when I almost had it
NB>>> done earlier... I still do intend to get it eventually, though...
BM>> Yes, no idea why the price is so much; I essentially paid
BM>> three-quarters of the 'normal and customary' price. Hopefully a tax
BM>> deduction, did/will get points on my credit card.
NB>> If you itemize deductions, it will count towards your medical
NB>> deduction... As to why the insurance picks up so little of it... it
NB>> might be partly that it is a new vaccine, and partly that it isn't for
NB>> a public health issue, just to protect the person getting it... When
NB>> there's a Covid-19 vaccine, I'd expect that to be covered mostly or in
NB>> full, since like the flu, it protects the community to have as many
NB>> vaccinated as possible....
BM> Though using that arguement the cholesterol-lowering medication only
BM> does me good and the insurance picks up 100%. Maybe they feel I'm
BM> worthy to society! <bseg>
NB> Regular prescriptions are a different story from vaccinations...
NB> A lot of the generics end up with a $0 copay... :) But only a
NB> few vaccines are covered completely....
True. Regulations, the Fine Print, and the etc.'s all make a
difference. One medication I do get "free" (need to pay for the
insurance!), another $3....
BM>> And should I have decided against getting the shot because of the
BM>> price I would definitely regretted being so cheap while itching and
BM>> otherwise suffering with the rash.
NB>> Indeed. Some medical costs are worth more than you paid, whether
NB>> in relief or protection... :)
BM> Yup! I've seen some pictures of nasty cases and I don't want that!!
NB> And I've had friends that had some of those nasty cases....
Even worse than the pictures!
BM>>> Do have to make one with the optometrist: received another e-mail
BM>>> reminder.
NB>>> I've got an appointment with the Optical Shop to get my new glasses
NB>>> ordered finally... it'll be Wednesday the 1st... Life somewhat goes
NB>>> back to normal.... slowly.... ;)
BM>> We're getting there!
NB>> And my new glasses are now ordered, and should be ready any time now..
NB>> I'll need to make another appointment to pick them up when they call
NB>> to say they're ready... They have you call from the parking lot when
NB>> you arrive, the person that answers asks a bunch of covid questions,
NB>> and then they let you in for your appointment...
BM> Yup - getting used to that 'parking lot waiting room' process. Us patients
BM> are going to have to get used to asking or otherwise finding
BM> out when their parking has shade!
NB> Or just sucking it up when there isn't any shade..... ;)
Or hoping for an earlier-morning appointment during that cold spell we
just had!
BM>>> Yes, I'm thinking there will be a slight push for tele-appointments
BM>>> from both the patient and doctor sides because it can be more
BM>>> convenient. Well, for some checks: anything thermal could be a little
BM>>> difficult (scan my own forehead, and if concerned about validity the
BM>>> doctor or nurse could have the patient scan on-camera.
NB>>> For most anything I'd want to see a doctor for, in-person tends to be
NB>>> more useful... :)
BM>> For me too. I can see advantanges for some instances of tele-
BM>> consulting. ...Wonder if the patient has to wait on video-hold the 15
BM>> minutes like in the office?!
NB>> Good question.... When Richard had a phone visit, we just had to
NB>> stay by the phone until she called...
BM> Which one would tend to do if expecting a call anyway.
NB> Exactly... Last week, I had two doctor visits by phone... the
NB> first one called in the 15 minutes beforehand we were supposed to
NB> be ready during, the second one called about half an hour
NB> early... fortunately I was home and already on alert to watch for
NB> him... :)
Early is good!
BM>> And if the parents had company staying overnight frequently it would
BM>> make sense to purchase a house able to accomodate conveniently, so the
BM>> extra bedroom(s), for the guests' comfort their own bathroom.
NB>> They did have family visit from out of town often enough for that to
NB>> be helpful... They've since downsized twice... all the kids are off
NB>> on their own now... :)
BM> Hopefuuly the downsized place wasn't too downsized: kids and their families
BM> will visit.
NB> Two of the three kids have their own homes here locally... The
NB> other doesn't have any kids of her own yet.... :)
They should have bought a small apartment building! Swimming pool,
laundry room, share heating and cooling costs...
