Hi Daryl!

BM> Ages ago we were watching TV in the Living Room -- a recorded programme via
BM> the computer system seveal generations before what I'm using here
BM> now. Just got done with a rain storm -- may have been some not-close
 BM> lightening, I don't recall. All of a sudden a bright blue-white light
BM> outside the windows -- side and front picture window. ??!! Didn't
BM> notice anything other than the super-bright light; no change to the
BM> picture, no glitch in the stream, no buzzing. Pause - get a flashlight and
BM> go outside to check, half-expecting to see something out there smoldering.
BM> Nothing. Checked the next morning in the sunlight and nothing.
DS> You were lucky...and blessed. With as much power as a lightning
DS> bolt has, it coudl've done some significant damage.

Yes! Never did figure it out nor see any damage -- even checked the
neighbours and no damaged noted, immediately after the incident nor
later.

DS> Right after they started the "lockdowns", some days, it was
DS> like on Christmas Day...the roads were like a ghost town.
BM> That would make sense: if no place to go/can't go any place the traffic
BM> would be minimal. LIS traffic here has been slowly increasing; stil
BM> not to the level it was prior.
DS> I doubt it ever will. But, I'm staying home more than I have
DS> been, as if I don't have to go out, why bother?? Never mind
DS> wasting all that gas in the car.

I'm not into 'idle shopping' though would every so often just wander to
do something to get out of the house. Usually had something in mind
thoug not always. This year COVID-19 closed most shops during the
Spring, so those wanderings didn't occur.

BM> Yup: not doing the necessary adaptations to business and more
BM> importantly customers, and for some barely hanging on the COVID-19 shutdown
BM> was pretty much the last nail in the coffin.
 DS> Yep.

Unfortunate, though probably will be replaced by others. "Removal of
the dead wood" ==> weak large and small businesses will close, but
should also allow room for new businesses, and as they will have been
born/created during COVID-19 their business model and practices will
blend with the 'new normal'.

DS> Every so often, I get amateur radio catalogs, but I take them
DS> to the license exam sessions as "porn"...because the prices are
DS> so nasty. If they note CALL/WEB, you know it's too expensive.
BM> Like the 'market price' on some hoighty-toity restaurant menus.
DS> Many restaurants (not so much fast food, but that day may be
DS> coming) are automatically adding a 20% gratuity to the bill
DS> BEFORE you get your food, served to you, or buffet. I've known
DS> some folks, who when finding that's going to be the case, turn
DS> around, and walk out. One individual printed up business cards,
DS> noting on one side that "I disagree with your policy". Then, on
DS> the other side, "You want a tip?? I've give you 3. Plant your
DS> corn early...keep your powder dry...and always have clean
 DS> underwear on"!! <G>

The consumer should have the right to disagree. A fair business would
have the 20% tip policy (and any other add-ons) stated prior to
ordering/billing (thinking restarants and stores in general). Have
heard of COVID-19 up-charges where a percentage is added on to the bill
(restaurant or store) because of added expenses. That I'd probably also
walk out on: the item is not costing the displayed $19.99 but $21.49.
(Starting to like the EU pricing better and better: item is E40, you pay
E40 - all taxes, etc., included. If I wish to give a tip I can, it is
not expected (though I think is customary).

DS> In the case of the latter, I saw a car pacing an ambulance on
DS> an emergency run. This woman is holding out a pair of clean
DS> underwear, and telling the paramedics to "put these on her son
DS> before they get to the hospital". <G> In truth, clean or soiled,
DS> they've seen it all before...just like nudity.

Yes, though I'm sure they have had their share of surprises, or at least
"I didn't expect that!".

DS> Or like the angry wife standing by the door, that has a rack of
DS> 3 items to use on her husband when he arrives home late:
 DS> 1) Wooden/Metal Spoon: Comes Home Late
DS> 2) Rolling Pin: Comes Home Drunk
DS> 3) Shotgun: He Bought Another Ham Radio Unit.
BM> Good thing that's not done here with computer stuff!
DS> Living alone, I don't have to worry about any of that. <G> But,
DS> the truth is, I can't afford to splurge on anything else.

Every couple/family should allow the individual to have their own
pleasures and preferences, though even then there is need for
consideration. Thinking slightly 'extreme' like drums, though guitar
and violin can get loud and so potentially annoying to the other person.

"Alone time" is generally good: you watch your soaps, I'll play on the
computer. We'll watch some shows together. :)
